EPFO Announces EPF Interest Rate for 2025: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has officially declared the EPF interest rate for the financial year 2024–25 as 8.35%, providing a modest hike compared to last year’s 8.25%. This new rate is applicable to all EPF account holders salaried employees in the private and public sectors and will be reflected in their EPF passbook balance post credit approval by the Finance Ministry.
What Is EPF and Why the Interest Rate Matters
EPF is a retirement savings scheme mandated by the Government of India for salaried employees. Contributions are made by both the employee and employer, and the fund earns annual interest set by the EPFO.
The interest rate determines how much additional money your EPF balance earns each year. For someone with ₹10 lakh in their PF account, an 8.35% rate means an interest gain of ₹83,500 this year.
