The EPFO has changed its pension rules in 2025, automatic pension is no longer provided. Here’s how to claim your EPS pension by submitting the mandatory form.
Big Update from EPFO: Automatic Pension Now Discontinued: In a significant policy change, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has discontinued automatic disbursement of EPS pensions. From now on, eligible pensioners must manually submit a claim form to start receiving their monthly pension benefits.
This change affects millions of private-sector employees enrolled in the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) 1995, and failing to act in time could result in delays or denial of pension payments.
Why Has the Rule Changed?
According to the EPFO, this change has been introduced to:
- Avoid pension fraud and prevent ghost claims
- Ensure that only eligible members who opt for pension benefits receive them
- Streamline the process with accurate bank and KYC details
Earlier, EPS pensions used to be processed automatically once the member retired after the required years of service. Now, a formal claim process must be followed.
Here’s What You Need to Do
To continue or start receiving your EPS pension, you must fill and submit the mandatory pension claim form Form 10D.
🔹 How to Submit EPS Form 10D:
- Visit the official EPFO portal: https://www.epfindia.gov.in
- Go to ‘Online Services’ > ‘Pension Claim (Form-10D)’
- Login using your UAN, OTP & password
- Select the option to claim EPS pension
- Fill in your bank details, KYC info, and upload necessary documents
- Submit your application and note down the Reference Number
Offline submission can also be done via your last employer or nearest EPFO office, but online mode is faster and preferred.
Who Needs to Apply?
You are required to fill Form 10D if:
- You’re retiring and eligible under the EPS-95 pension scheme
- You are a nominee/legal heir of a deceased EPS member
- You’ve completed 10 years of service or more
Note: Even if your PF and UAN are in good standing, the pension will not be released unless this form is submitted.
What Happens If You Don’t Apply?
If you do not submit Form 10D, you will not receive any pension amount even if you’re fully eligible. This rule applies from 2025 onwards, and delays could result in financial inconvenience or even loss of arrears.
Don’t Miss What’s Rightfully Yours
The new EPFO pension rules in 2025 make it mandatory for all eligible pensioners to actively claim their benefits. There’s no automatic credit anymore you need to fill Form 10D and apply to get your monthly pension. Don’t wait take action now and secure the pension you’ve worked for.
