GSPay Technology: Now Send UPI Payments Without Internet Using PhonePe’s New Feature

PhonePe has launched a revolutionary UPI feature using GSPay technology that lets users make UPI payments without internet. Here’s how it works and why it’s a game-changer for India.

PhonePe Launches GSPay-Based UPI Payments Without Internet: Digital payment giant PhonePe has launched a new feature that enables UPI payments without internet, thanks to a new technology called GSPay (Global System Payment). This update allows users to send and receive UPI payments using basic mobile network signals, making it accessible to users in remote and low-connectivity areas.

The feature is seen as a revolution in digital payments, especially for India’s rural population and regions with limited or no internet access.

What is GSPay Technology?

GSPay stands for Global System Payment, a UPI protocol that works over GSM (mobile network) instead of mobile data or Wi-Fi.

Here’s what makes it powerful:

  • No internet or smartphone required
  • Uses mobile tower connectivity (like SMS or 2G/3G signals)
  • Works even on feature phones
  • Ideal for rural, tribal, and underdeveloped areas

This ensures real-time money transfer even where apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm can’t work due to low network strength.

How to Use PhonePe UPI Without Internet

PhonePe users can now:

  1. Dial *‘99#’ from their registered mobile number
  2. Select “Send Money”
  3. Enter the UPI ID or Mobile Number
  4. Confirm payment with UPI PIN

No internet connection or mobile app is needed. The transaction is verified and processed via NPCI’s UPI Lite infrastructure integrated with GSPay.

Benefits of GSPay for India

This new system is being praised for:

  • Empowering rural and elderly populations without smartphones
  • Providing financial inclusion in remote villages
  • Reducing dependency on unstable mobile data
  • Offering 24/7 real-time payments, even during internet blackouts
  • Lower transaction failure rates

GSPay may soon become a default option in UPI-enabled apps across India.

PhonePe Leads the Way in UPI Innovation

PhonePe’s rollout of this feature comes after its recent UPI Lite integration and global remittance pilot. With GSPay, it strengthens its position as a pioneer in India’s fintech revolution.

According to company sources, the GSPay feature will gradually be enabled for all users by the end of 2025, in partnership with NPCI and major telecom providers.

A New Era of Offline UPI Is Here

With GSPay technology, UPI has officially gone offline, allowing even users without smartphones or internet to enjoy seamless, secure digital payments. As India moves towards 100% financial inclusion, PhonePe’s innovation ensures no one is left behind not even in the remotest corners of the country.
