Solar Project Kuwait has taken a major step forward in its clean energy transition by inviting global bids for a 1.1 gigawatt (GW) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) project. The announcement was made by the country’s Authority for Partnership Projects (APP), marking a strategic push toward renewable power infrastructure under Kuwait Vision 2035. The project will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy.

Location and Scope of the Project

The solar PV project is to be set up in Al Dibdibah, a location identified for its high solar irradiance and strategic connectivity to the national grid. Once completed, it is expected to become one of the largest solar installations in the Gulf region, capable of powering hundreds of thousands of households and significantly reducing the country’s dependency on fossil fuels.

Global Bidding Invitation for Solar Developers

APP has officially opened the tender process to international and regional Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and consortiums interested in developing, financing, constructing, and operating the project under a long-term agreement. The move is expected to attract leading clean energy firms from across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The prequalification stage will be followed by a detailed bidding process, ensuring that only experienced and financially strong players are selected.
