Indian Railways Changes Tatkal Booking Rules from July 1: Starting July 1, 2025, Indian Railways will implement a new Aadhaar-based verification rule for all Tatkal ticket bookings. This means passengers will not be able to book Tatkal train tickets unless their Aadhaar number is verified with their IRCTC account.

The move comes in response to growing concerns about fake bookings, misuse of Tatkal quotas, and to enhance the security and transparency of railway operations.

Who Will Be Affected?

This rule applies to all Tatkal bookings made through:

  • IRCTC official website
  • Authorized mobile apps
  • Railway ticket booking agents

Both AC and sleeper class Tatkal tickets will now require Aadhaar verification before booking.

How to Link Aadhaar with Your IRCTC Account

Follow these simple steps to ensure uninterrupted booking:

  1. Login to your account at https://www.irctc.co.in
  2. Go to “My Profile” > “Aadhaar KYC”
  3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
  4. Submit the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  5. Once verified, your profile will show “Aadhaar Verified”

IRCTC has confirmed that Aadhaar will not be shared and is used only for authentication purposes.

Why This Rule Was Introduced

The Railway Ministry says Aadhaar verification will:

  • Curb unauthorized agents and bulk booking
  • Reduce ticket touting and fraud
  • Ensure genuine passengers get Tatkal tickets
  • Improve the overall security and user accountability

Can You Still Book Tickets Without Aadhaar?

Regular ticket bookings (non-Tatkal) will remain available without Aadhaar for now. However, Indian Railways may expand Aadhaar-linked verification to all ticket categories in the future.

Tatkal bookings from July 1 onwards will strictly require Aadhaar authentication.
