  • Proof of Address (PoA)

Note: This free service is only available online via the UIDAI self-service portal — not at physical Aadhaar centers, where the ₹50 fee still applies.

Step-by-Step: How to Update Aadhaar Online for Free

  1. Visit the official UIDAI website: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
  2. Click on “Login” with your Aadhaar number and OTP
  3. Select “Document Update” under Services
  4. Upload a scanned copy of your updated PoI or PoA document
  5. Submit and note your URN (Update Request Number) for tracking

Updates usually reflect within 3–5 business days if all documents are valid.

Who Should Update Their Aadhaar?

UIDAI advises the following people to update:

  • Anyone who received Aadhaar before 2015 and hasn’t updated since
  • Individuals who have moved to a new address
  • Citizens who have changed their name or mobile number (these require biometric updates at centers)
